The first book stamp I made was for the book Piransei by Susanna Clarke. The setting of the book and the imagery of the world the author created really overtook me. This is a sort of "soft fantasty" book. The main setting is an other wordly house with infinite hallways and rooms. The house is adorned with marble sculptures and contains an ocean that can rise and lower at different times of the day,

I have a certain affinity for sculptures. Mostly artistic ones you would find in the renissance period or maybe in a older graveyeard. The author describes many different ones, but I really enjoyed the very first one she described:

" .... I reached the Statue of a Woman carrying a Beehive, fifteen metres above the Pavement. The Woman is two or three times my own height and the Beehive is covered with marble bees the size of my thumb. One Bee - this always gives me a slight sensation of queasiness - crawls over her left eye. I squeezed Myself into the Woman's Niche and waited until I heard the Tides roaring in the Lower Hall and felt the Walls vibrating with the force of what was about to happen."

Obviously I couldn't get the little bees flying around or Piranesi hiding. This stamp is only about 5 inches tall, but you get the idea.

This was such a beautiful and interesting book, unlike anything I have ever read. With this stamp I felt like I was communicating something I thought was beautiful that this author created and wondered if other people found it beautiful too.
